Unload the car off the trailer, warm it up, fill out tech card and go to tech. Back to pit area, change plugs, check engine-bolts-timing-air pressure (load and unload with 20psi in tires) set to 12 1/2lbs. top off fuel cell (almost every round i do this) go to lanes and try to run at around 170 temp.

After round- cool down car (Has alt so no more charging) check over top and bottom for loose bolts or any signs of a dripping, reset tire pressure (check again in lanes) race.

Just curious what everyone's race day maintenance/prep procedures are. Warm up, pre-race checks, etc... what's everyone's routine?

Just looking to see if there's somewhere I could improve.
Leak Down, run the valves, check convert or bolts, and if it shakes Hard we go bumper to bumper.

The guys working the tune up I don't even want to know what there doing unless they are giving me some crazy set up then they tell me to hold on at a certain point or to be ready. Lol

All my pre race Nut/Bolt look for leaks and such I do the night before at home.

When I get to the track I unload, warm the car up, drive around the pits a few times. I'm on alky so then I top off the fuel and check tire pressure. Open the hood for a quick visual. Wait to be called to the lanes.

After first run: Add fuel, another visual inspection.

Between rounds: Add fuel, check tires.

I'm just a bracket guy and as I've said before I double enter alot. I want low maintenance or no maintenance. I'm there to race and win, not work on my car.

This is why I switched to Alky this year.........it's fucking GREATNESS!!!!

Unload car, ride around waving at people, set tire pressure. Go watch guys changing converters because the track changed. Thats it for the day other than keeping fuel in it. If I wanted to work on the thing like some other do, I would still be racing dirt cars.

I check over the car the day before I go to the track. Run the valves, check timing, inflation on the front tires, make sure the slicks are slightly over so I don't have to look for air at the track, water level, battery is fully charged, fluids are good. At the track I make fine tuning stuff only if needed, and only check something if something didn't seem right. I don't like to mess with the car at the track unless it's a test and tune just to help keep things consistant. Other than that, I'll change the oil a couple of times during the season and make sure the fuel cell is full every two rounds....

I try to do as little to the car while I'm at the track as possible. I have a bracket car, and one that isnt terribly fast (6.30's in the 1/8 ), so it should not require a lot of between round maintenance. When I get to the track, I unload the car, check to make sure nothing is leaking and drive around to warm it up. Once back at the trailer I lower the tire pressure, top off the cell, and put it on the charger. Between rounds, I put it on the charger, top off the cell, and make sure the tires are slightly over where I run them so I can lower them down to the right pressure once in the lanes. I never used remove the hood once racing has started unless something was wrong, but this year I moved the cell up front for the belt drive pump and will need to remove it every pass to top off the cell.

I'll change the oil a couple of times during the year, check lash at the same time, check timing, and put in new plugs. Unless the car suddenly slows down for no apparent reason or something start leaking, I dont fool with it.

· Unload car
· Unload/set up work area around car
· Put car through full warm up
· Run valves and check spring pressures
· Check weather and decide on tune up
· Put in fresh plugs and top off fuel
· Make fuel system and timing changes
· Check tire pressures
· Make a pass
· Put car back in the air
· Put fans on motor and converter
· Download run from data recorder
· Leak down cylinders and read plugs
· Check valve lash and spring pressures
· Check weather, data from last pass, and decide on tune up
· Make tune up changes
· Top off fuel and drain puke tanks
· Check tire pressures
· Make a pass
· Repeat until you lose a round or shit blows up!
.

Anyone swap tires side to side between runs? I've heard of and seen this done as a way to preserve the tires.
^^^^^^^^^SORRY I DO, DO THIS. JUST NOT AT THE TRACK I DO IT BEFORE EACH OUTTING.

you gotta come hang with us this year you will get tired watching us. Lol

Last race at Pgh last season the crew changed 3 convertors during eliminations because the track kept tightening up.

Out of the trailer with a warmup, it takes them about an hour to get ready for a pass.
^^^^^^^^^^U LET ME KNOW I'LL BE IN THERE LIKE SWIMWEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!

I usually unload the car, setup camp, fill out tech card, go through tech, warm up car, retun to pit check over car, get jacket and helmet ready, check and adjust tires, top off the gas. Proceed to sit in camp and eat hot dogs!

Warm car up off trailer. Car has a thermostat so all runs are made at 180 degrees.
Never have to cool the car down
I have an alternator so no charging for me
Keep up with tire pressure, fuel and weather.
If I can't build a bracket car that won't go 10 passes on race day without working on it, I'll quit racing.
But thats just me.
I'm with you on that!

I carry spare parts, like a new fan belt, etc. That's about it.

I've seen some with an entire garage with them including spare cars, bodies, engines etc. We race for a couple of days pay, not CEO bonus checks!

with all that warm up you do how in the world do you have time to make fun of all the tire pressure checkers???

Between rounds the first thing I do when I get back Is, Go over the recent time slip thoroughly! on alky so don't really have to do much about cooling...have an alternator so don't really have to charge, Always check the car for any loose fitting's or anything that could cause them to shut you down on the line, after that I like to watch some racing....When I return and before I run I'll CHECK THE TIRE'S LOL!! Clear my dial, fuel up, position my belts out of the way so when I get in it's no hurry and head back to the lanes...I have a habit of clearing my dial even when it's gonna stay the same! Guess I just like to see the guy keep walking back and forth checking to see if I put it on yet and what I'm dialing!! Anyway I watch the cars in the other lanes check the air psi one last time when I'm 5 or so pairs out, Dial it, climb in and ready to go....The only thing I really carry with me during a pass spare fuses in a little pouch in my dragster seat...I once rattled the tires hard during the burn out in my dragster and it popped the ignition fuse when it did it....ever since then I've carried extra because I'll never forget how disgusted I was looking at my switch panel with one light out continuously flipping the switch like it was gonna miraculously come back on!! LOL!
