Looks like you need a better gear set form the planetary. Didn't damage the tranny housing did it? Better be gettin' that thing back together. We gotta a race in six days if the weather hold out.

Just being curious or maybe it's just i'm stupid. But why would you run a 400 over a glide? Is it due to the low 1st gear ratio or something to that nature to get the car off the line faster?

Vern would you mind explaining this a little more in depth for me? Is a 400 stronger than a glide or equal? How much of a difference is there in power loss through the 400?

Save yourself the trouble and go with a glide, it's all about the correct gear ratio, T 400 is heavier. Not sayin 400 won't work but to me it makes a lot more sense to lose the weight and not have to screw with 1st gear in a 400 at all. you can buy a glide that will hold 3000HP. From a stock standpoint the 400 gets the nood but you get to a certian point glide takes over with parts availablity plus very cheap to upgrade. Just my 2 cents.

The 400 is a little heavier. But from some perspectives there is value in running the 400 over the glide. With todays technology you can leave in 2nd with the 400 and run good numbers, which is veryu similiar to a glide, or if the track is really good you have the option of using 1st gears too. Of coarse if your into weight savings 1st gear can be removed? Then you just have 2nd and 3rd. There are plenty of three speeds out there running good. But it's hard to beat a glide. Just find the right gear ratio for your setup and be done with it IMO. Vern does have a very nice tranny that Lonnie did for him. It's all personal preference I guess. Vern's been 5.30's and would have been in the 5.20's if that dang driver of his would keep the pedal to the floor and the car in the groove.
So, both tranny will work. If you need more info on the 400 PM Vern and I'm sure he can fill you in or give you Lonnie's number.

I like the 400 do to the fact I can change gears and run 3 gears run 1/4 or use 2 gears and run the 1/8 I have the light weight version and its no heaver then the glide I had .. I see no power loss from the 2 but my short times did pick up.. 400s will be more popular in the future IMO Lonnie from extreme automatics is building new gear sets for these 400s so you will have more options in gears in the future making the 400 a better choice..
